Summer 2019: The Purple Room May guests will be singer/songwriter Matthew Sturgess & Wharfedale poet Jenny Dixon.
Doors open at 7.30pm. Entry £5 on the door - all monies to the performers.
Food & drinks are available to purchase at the bar. Meals can be pre-ordered by contacting The Wheatley Arms.

MATTHEW STURGESS: often performs solo or fronting the band 'The Silver Reserve' and is an Otley-based performer who plays delicate, sparse music on a classical guitar with songs about (claims of) out-of-body experiences, monogamy, small-town community Facebook pages and much more. Occasionally, Matthew introduces a loop/delay pedal to create dense, layered atmospherics. It's music that doesn't rush and takes its sweet, sad time to unfurl and sneak under the skin.
JENNY DIXON: born and brought up in Wharfedale; a former secretary and President of the Wharfedale Naturalists Society, Jenny writes a regular column, Nature Notes, for local papers. For the past five years she has found support and encouragement as a member of the Wharfedale Poets’ poetry co-operative. She lives in Ilkley with her husband John and they are both enthusiastic members of the Ilkley U3A for which they have run courses on Writing Life Stories, Family and Local History, Giving Voice to Poetry and much more. Jenny has convened a U3A Poetry Exchange for the past twelve years, and recently the group has extended their activities, sharing favourite poems with residents of care homes in Ilkley.
