Poetry Workshop: In Celebration of Women

Poetry Prescribed promote poetry as a self healing tool; and an effective way to manage mental health and wellbeing. Hosted by Miss Yankey this workshop promises to be a thought provoking session of reading, speaking, creating and sharing poetry in celebration of women.

March is the month of both International Women's day, and Mothers Day- so what better time to celebrate the women in our lives, and across the globe. Please join us to discuss everything from motherhood, to gender stereotypes; as we explore the challenges and successes of women in the 21st century.

You do not need to be a poet to join us! At Poetry Prescribed we welcome all writing levels- rest assured no previous writing experience is required to participate! We only ask that you come with an open mind, and be willing to explore your own creative potential in a nurturing and judgement free environment.

Poetry has the ability to inspire thought, change and creativity; it can also promote healing and personal growth. Through poetry we can creatively connect to self, others, our communities, and our spirituality.

We look forward to prescribing you poetry!

Recent Reviews:

"A safe, warm space to reflect and create. Inspiration for me is not easily come by, but Poetry Prescribed offers so many tools and vital conversations, it's hard not to leave feeling energized and ready to write! Can't wait for the next one." - Becksy Becks

"Esi is passionate and professional in what she does. She nurtures and inspires, and inevitably the creative juices begin to flow. She is a natural teacher, in terms of presenting the group with poetry and helping us to think analytically and feel empathy for the writers. It is only natural that this process enabled me and others in the space to analyse and feel empathy with ourselves and each other (respect to the max to the group also). To some (including me) this will be a healing space, to others therapy, or simply an opportunity to feel free to create. I would so recommend Esi's work in both voluntary and statutory organisations.. Serious talent deh yah!" - Judy Worrell

Poetry Prescribed work in partnership with Mind Over Matter; an independent project which aims to break down stigma and widen the conversation around mental health, by discussing it through Spoken Word Poetry and Hip Hop. They host powerful, community driven events showcasing the best of up and coming talent as well as established artists from the worlds of Spoken Word and Hip Hop. All Poetry Prescribed attendees are encouraged to sign up for the open mic at Mind Over Matter, for an opportunity to share their poetry in a welcoming, supportive environment.

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first March 8 IWD gathering supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom's Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organisation specific. Make IWD your day! - everyday!
