A Poem and a Pint

An evening of poetry and music. The event features Joanne Limburg, currently the Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Magdalen College, Cambridge. Her third collection of poems, 'The Autistic Alice', published in early 2017, is a double study of grief and discomfort . Growing up with undiagnosed Asperger’s, Limburg often identified with Alice, a logical and curious child adrift in an arbitrary world. In 'The Autistic Alice' she frequently uses references to two Alice books, combining lines and phrases drawn from them with her own imaginings and explorations, creating a disturbingly effective and idiosyncratic language to express the nature, discomfort and alienation of autistic experience. She is an exciting and sometimes disturbing reader. The evening’s music will be provided by the Demix, Rod Demick and his wife Sarah Littlefeather, who have been performing as a duo since way back in the days of yore and are perhaps our most requested duo. The Poem and a Pint Committee will, as is customary in our annual Midwinter Poetry Extravaganza, support our headline poet with their entertaining and thought provoking verse. All this and the annual return of m/c Ross Baxter from the wastes of Blawith with his wry comments in prose or verse on life, the universe and everything between will add up to an evening to drive away the miseries of winter.
