February 2018 marks the centenary of the birth of Muriel Spark, one of the greatest and most influential writers of our time.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Carcanet is proud to produce this special event in partnership with the Scottish Poetry Library in Spark's birthplace of Edinburgh. Distinguished poet, biographer and translator, Elaine Feinstein will be in conversation with Scottish journalist, editor and broadcaster, Alan Taylor, author of the recently published Appointment In Arezzo: A Friendship With Muriel Spark.

Carcanet and the SPL are especially keen to celebrate Spark's legacy, because, as is often overlooked, she began her writing career as a poet and poetry critic. Elaine and Alan will discuss Spark and her memoir Curriculum Vitae (originally published by Carcanet in 2009 with a foreword by Elaine and reissued in 2018), and Elaine will read some of her own poetry. We hope you can join us for a great evening remembering Spark's life and her poetry.
