An Evening of Music & Poetry with guests singer/songwriter Judith Silver & poet Laura Potts.

Judith Silver started her professional life as a musician in 1996 as a singer/songwriter, playing in small venues, mostly around London. Her first performance of original songs was at Bunjies Folk Club, one of the original folk cafes of the 1950s/1960s and she developed from there to perform at a wide variety of venues such as the Mean Fiddler, The Borderline and the Rock Garden.
Alongside her work as a singer/songwriter, Judith has also become an inspirational community singing leader, leading the North Watford Community Choir, Singing for the Mind, at the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in St. John’s Wood, as well as the Brighton and Hove Interfaith Choir, which is open to people of all faiths and none. In 2014 Judith founded Companion Voices, a group of singers who can be called to the bedside of people who are dying. For more information about Judith’s work, please visit her website: https://judithsilver.com/

Laura Potts is twenty-one years old and lives in West Yorkshire. She began writing poetry when she was 13 years old and gave her first public reading at the age of just 14 as a ‘support act’ to the Bard of Barnsley Ian McMillan at Wakefield’s famous Labour Club, The Red Shed.
She has twice been named a London Foyle Young Poet of the Year and Young Writer. In 2013, she became an Arts Council Northern Voices poet and Lieder Poet at the University of Leeds. Her poems have appeared in Seamus Heaney’s Agenda, The Yorker and The Interpreter’s House. Having studied at The University of Cape Town and worked at The Dylan Thomas Birthplace in Swansea, Laura has recently become Agenda’s Young TS Eliot Poet and been shortlisted for The Charter-Oak Award for Best Historical Fiction in Colorado, USA. In 2017, she became one of the BBC’s New Voices.
