Spoken word event with headliner Brenda Read-Brown and guest poets Peter Wyton and Sharon Carr.
Brenda has won many slams (performance poetry competitions) and is also a prize-winning playwright. She has worked as a practitioner with people of all ages (literally 1 to 101!) and from all backgrounds. She works regularly in schools, and is Writer in Residence in HMP Shrewsbury, in the Oncology Unit at Cheltenham Hospital and in a GP surgery in Tewkesbury. She has managed a number of projects with The Reading Agency, and is currently co-ordinator of Poetry on Loan, an organisation that promotes contemporary poetry through public libraries in the West Midlands. Brenda is a Trustee / Director of Ledbury Poetry Festival.

Peter Wyton: “Since 1996 I have performed at festivals, arts centres and a whole conglomeration of other venues from Penzance to St. Andrews, from Aldeburgh to Ulster. I’ve collected 25 1st prizes in written competitions, as well as 15 Slam wins. I have eight ‘slim volumes’ to my name, three still in print”. A veteran of the poetry scene.

Sharon Carr: Originally from Canada, Sharon Carr has been a Midlands dweller for many years. She has been a resident storyteller with Birmingham Storytelling Café since 2012 and can trace her love of storytelling back to her Welsh mother who delights in telling family stories. Sharon enjoys telling stories that earthy, humorous, magical and shivery. Her style is lively, dramatic and at times, funny! She has performed on the spoken word circuit in Birmingham as well as at local festivals, libraries and storytelling clubs in the West Midlands.
