LICENSED TO RHYME – Monday, February 13th, 2017

We’re back after a break for Christmas and the New Year, and we’re back with a bang! This month, for the cost of a fiver, we offer you FIVE Poets Laureate! Yes, FIVE for a fiver. Well, that was until last Sunday, but now there is a new Young Poet Laureate for Worcestershire – Oakley Flanagan – and he will be performing his winning poems at Licensed to Rhyme too!

My co-host is the ever-green poet, the wonderful Giovanni “Spoz” Esposito. He is to poetry in the West Midlands what …. well, he IS poetry in the West Midlands! He will be performing as well as co-hosting. Spoz is first of our five, and a former Birmingham Poet Laureate.
Joining him in the line-up will be the amazingly talented former Worcestershire Young Poet Laureate, Chloe Clarke. Her writing has brought me to tears – in a good way.
Another young Poet Laureate – this time the current Birmingham Poet Laureate. Nyanda is writing poetry way beyond her years and in ground-breaking areas. A “voice”not to be missed as she brings melody to her writing.

And finally, but by no means least, our headliner - the extraordinary talent that is Matt Windle, the Poet with Punch. Face and voice of Birmingham; current Birmingham Poet Laureate, and a professional boxer! When Matt isn’t boxing, training, dieting or writing, he is interacting within schools encouraging young imaginations; developing ideas; giving youngsters the ability to see, hear and write about the world they live in. A young man with charisma by the bucketful and a gift for writing. Too much to tell you here so do check him out on the Internet.

And then our number six is me, Maggie Doyle. Poet Laureate Emeritus for Worcestershire, and also your co-host.

Supporting our laureates will be open-mic performers, including another talent which is limitless – Sarah James-Leavesley. Sarah has more credits to her name in publications than one can imagine, she has written and published numerous poetry books, is a journalist, judges competitions, writes flash fiction, is a most able photographer, has written a play which has toured the UK and owns her own publishing company. And this is by no means a comprehensive list of her talents.
