Open Mic Event

An evening of poetry and music. The event features the poet Keith Hutson, whose debut pamphlet Routines, published by Poetry Salzburg last month, is a sequence of thirty-one sonnets celebrating music hall and variety artistes, who led often hard, sometimes tragic, always extraordinary lives. Keith has many strings to his bow, having run a landscape garden business for many years as well as writing scripts for Coronation Street and material for several comedians including the late great Les Dawson. He currently delivers poetry and performance workshops to schools in the Calderdale area as part of a Prince’s Trust initiative, is editor of the MMU literary journal, Avis, and keeps a small herd of sheep on the slopes of the valley above Halifax. For the evening's music we welcome the popular Furness all female saxophone quartet Ragazza. There are six open mic slots, sign up at the door, and the M/C is Caroline Gilfillan. Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England
