Guest Poets:

This September we are very excited to welcome WORD LIFE:

Word Life is one of the leading literature organisations in the country. Over the last ten years its been dedicated to showcasing original work to new audiences through a diverse programme of events, projects and publications. To celebrate their 10 years they've published an anthology of the best writers they've worked with over the years. The book includes the winners of prestigious literary prizes such as Helen Mort and Andrew McMillan alongside International Slam winner Buddy Wakefield and spoken word viral sensation Hollie McNish. Word Life launch their new anthology in Lincoln with four writers from the anthology.

JOE KRISS

Joe Kriss is a poet based in Sheffield and the founder of WordLife. He has been published in numerous anthologies and magazines and performed at spoken word nights across the country. He has performed at venues such as the Tate Modern, The Roundhouse, National Media Museum and major festivals such as Shambala and BoomTown Festival. He's shared stages with poets such as Kate Tempest, Buddy Wakefield, and singer/songwriter Laura Marling.

GEVI CARVER

Genevieve Carver has been performing for audiences since 2011 with her straight-talking, gin-fuelled spoken word routine. Past appearances have included the Edinburgh Fringe and Shambala music festival, and her written work has appeared in Iota, Envoi, Now Then and The North magazines. She was a semi-finalist in the Hammer & Tongue UK National Poetry Slam 2016 and is currently a poet in residence at Bank Street Arts.

STEPHEN SCOTT

Steve is a novelist and short story writer from Sheffield. He's had several collections of his work published including 'Exploring Oblivion' and 'Sheep and Other Animals'. He has completed reading tours of the UK and Europe and is one of WordLife's most frequent performers. His pieces of short fiction are often both devastating and amusing with an undeniable current of dark humour pervading his work.

STAN SKINNY

Comedian, Poet, performer, clown, songsmith, wordsmith, blacksmith, fan of the Smiths and all round bad egg Stan Skinny has been entertaining people with his body and mouth since his trousers split in the school assembly and he let out a sigh from both ends. Nowadays he has developed his act to involve songs, poems, jokes, japes, impressions, dance routines, mime, raps, ecclesiastical chanting and yoga but the trouser splitting still gets the biggest laugh. Come along and see what all the fuss is not about.

VR POETRY INSTALLATION

Word Life has been experimenting with the development of literature and new technology. They are bringing with them the first ever VR poetry installation. Pop on a Gear VR headset and watch poets such as Helen Mort and previous WOM headliner Gav Roberts perform in locations directly linked to their poems.

MARITA METELIA

Marita Metelia is a Nottingham based solo acoustic singer, song-writer, busker musician. Recommended by a WORD of MOUTH audience member after seeing her perform in Lincoln, and after seeing her perform ourselves we agree, Marita is a mesmerising musician and we're pleased to have her kicking off the show for us this month!
