Open Mic Event

An evening of poetry and music with poet Liz Berry, whose 'Black Country' won the 2014 Forward Prize for Best First Collection and Ulverston singer/songwriter Louise Mary Martin, a favourite of Poem and a Pint audiences. Berry’s poems move from the magic of childhood – bostin fittle at Nanny’s, summers before school – into deeper, darker territory: sensual love, enchanted weddings, and the promise of new life. In her hands, the ordinary is transformed, her characters shift shapes. Louise Mary Martin finds Poem and a Pint the perfect event to showcase her music in its stripped-down state. She often brings songs that barely get heard as they are a little too fragile for pub audiences, that are soulful, lyrical, mindful and heartfelt.
All this, plus the unpredictability of the open mic talent and MC Kim Moore will make for a memorable evening's entertainment.
