Watch Poetry Out Loud State Champions compete for the title of Poetry Out Loud National Champion and a $20,000 award. The National Finals will be hosted by Taylor Mali with Gabriel Kahane performing. Richard Blanco, Nikky Finney, Carol Jago, Maria Popova, and Brando Skyhorse will judge the competition.

New York City performance poet Taylor Mali is one of the most well-known poets to have emerged from the poetry slam movement and one of the original poets to appear on the HBO series “Def Poetry Jam.” He is a four-time National Poetry Slam champion and the author of four books, including What Teachers Make: In Praise of the Greatest Job in the World.

Gabriel Kahane is the son of a psychologist mother and the concert pianist and conductor Jeffrey Kahane. He attended the New England Conservatory before transferring to Brown University, where he wrote his first musical and graduated with a bachelor's degree in music. Kahane currently lives in Brooklyn and performs his original songs in venues across the United States.
