The final Archimedes Screw showcase of 2014 closes the series verbal fireworks when Martin Figura brings his critically acclaimed show ‘Whistle’ to Southampton for the first time. “Profoundly honest and at the same time joyfully entertaining” Independent on Sunday At the centre of Martin Figura’s Whistle is the mother’s death at the hands of his father when he was nine years old. The work goes beyond this shocking central event to present us with a tender, beautiful, funny and moving coming-of-age story. Figura uses gentle humour and insight to give the reader and audience a profound and uplifting experience. Open mic places will be available for those who sign up at 7pm, and the showcase will also see September’s open mic Audience Choice poet go head to head with a guest poet for the final Archimedes Screw Champion title of the year.
