Yurt Salon - Poetry Night

On Tuesday 16th May, we'll be welcoming five diverse poets and spoken word performers to read from their latest work at the Yurt Cafe in Limehouse. The lineup covers a variety of poetic types from comedy, lyric, literary and spoken word.

Doors will open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Tickets are £3 in advance or £4 on the door - proceeds are shared with a charity and the artists.

The Authors

Mona Dash was born in Odisha, India, and settled in London in 2001. She writes fiction and poetry and her work has been anthologised internationally.

Dirk van Heck read History at Trinity College Cambridge, where he was also a choral exhibitioner and started writing poetry. He is now a barrister, but continues in his artistic endeavours, which have recently included conducting the music at a wedding on no notice.

Sophia Blackwell started performing poetry over ten years ago. Her poetry has been anthologized by Bloodaxe, Nine Arches, The Emma Press and Sidekick Books, and her other writing has been published in Diva and Time Out. She is the author of one collection of poetry, Into Temptation, and one novel, After My Own Heart (Limehouse Books). Her new poetry collection, The Fire-Eater's Lover, is out now.

Kavita A. Jindal - is an acclaimed poet and a prize-winning short-fiction writer. She is the author of Raincheck Renewed, published by Chameleon Press. Her work has appeared in literary journals, anthologies and newspapers around the world and been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and European cultural radio stations.

Gretchen Heffernan co-founded Backlash Press and has published in journals such as Agni and Brittle Star. She is the author of fantasy titles, The Book of Dirt and, forthcoming, The Book of Insects. Early next year she will be releasing her fiction novel The Carving Circle. She has a degree in Creative Writing and Modern Poetry from Vermont College.
