Poetry Reading: Mary O'Donnell & Donald Gardner + open mic.

Mary O'Donnell (Ireland) began her writing life as a poet, but has also published novels and short stories at various intervals over the years. Her last volume of poetry, 'Those April Fevers' (Arc, 2015) was highly praised by fellow Irish poet Thomas McCarthy: ‘Technically adventurous and emotionally powerful., Mary O’Donnell’s beautiful new work is simply perfect.’ She teaches poetry at Galway University's MA in Creative Writing. She is a member of Aosdana. Her website is: http://www.maryodonnell.com

Donald Gardner (Amsterdam) has often read at Torriano and is published by Hearing Eye books ('The Glittering Sea', 2006 and 'The Wolf Inside', 2014). He is a poet and literary translator who has lived in Italy, New York and the Netherlands. His selection of Remco Campert’s poetry, ‘In those Days’ (Shoestring Press, 2014) was awarded the Vondel Prize for Literary Translation in 2016. Currently he divides his time between Amsterdam and Kildare, Ireland. ‘Donald Gardner’s work is light but not trivial; clear but technically subtle and eloquent. His poetry captures his images in few words: sharply, precisely.’ Leah Fritz on 'The Wolf Inside' (London Grip online magazine).
