Thanks a lot MC for your comment on my debut rhymes . I'm still trudging my way around the site like a fly through toffee.I have to say that I particularly enjoyed your sample 'Thoughts at Christmas' . I'm a sucker for rhyme, as it's all I really do. I'm sure you've heard this before, but that poem is so perfectly balanced in rhyme and meter, with a strong and poignant message.

Many thanks for your thoughts on "Platform". As I explained in my later comment on the page, it was, in fact, my little joke! Everyone is telling me now that because they think it's free verse that it is. But, as I said to Harry, I gave birth to the bloody thing. It was an egg - it won't make a pig.

Thanks fo your comments.
I wrote this while working with young people who are at risk of peer pressure.
I use this to kick start dialogue etc. Then they can use their own words/poems to buy into expressing themselves.
But it can be used for any age group.

Hello MC. Thanks for your thoughts on Haddlesey Bells. No, this isn't the one we did for the school. That's called "Together" and is in the process of being recorded by a local singer. I'll post that when it's ready.
I agree with you about the unnecessary repetition of the last chorus. (A little too much of a good thing, I think!) In fact Our Gert suggesed deleting the entire song!

Hello chuck

Just a note to say that your piece 'Be Grateful' isn't quite tagged correctly if you want it going in the competition.

At the moment, it is tagged 'WOL,com' and it should be tagged 'WOL comp' or it won't appear in the tagged list :)

Hi MC
As ever ...
6:30
If I'd wanted a 'comment' that understood what I was trying to get across, I couldn't have wanted anything better than yours.
It was originally written for a very specific (personal)reason, but I then realised that with a bit of editing, it covered all the bases you mentioned.

Hi M.C,

Not been on for a bit and have only just seen your comment on my page..

The reason for so many poets being from the north; I think it relates to wol being set-up in Bolton and the surrounding area. A lot of poets got to know each other at the various venues and the poetry scene is also vibrant in Manchester, Liverpool and on the Wirral.

That said there are quite a few people from further afield, the midlands and down south. I know Ann Foxglove has set up a poetry night somewhere near Cornwall...so lots of people from differing places frequent the site.

Not sure if you write and perform your poetry of just write it, but I would recommend going to open mic nights if you are not doing so already. There is bound to be one or two in your area.

Your poems have been a welcome read.

My Best

Chris

Thanks for the comments on "7 O'Clock Brit".
I think it's a case of "the other man's grass" in that the treasured rarities for us in the Midlands was an errant Castle or King wandering up to Nottingham Victoria.
My sorrow was that my territory was always the LMS and I never got to se the Streaks on the LNER. By the time I went to Grantham (our nearest LNER station) they'd been withdrawn and the paler attraction was the Deltics.

Hello MC. I take your point about the Cornish having the lengthiest claim to the mantle but even they are primarily of immigrant Celtic stock. I can't imagine there's a single person alive whose DNA goes back purely to the Beaker Man who looked out over the English Channel and said "OK. So where's the footpath gone?".

Hello MC. Thanks for your thoughts on "Everybody's Gone Serfin'". If you read the O'Farrell book you'll see just how much of mine was original (not much!).
I will agree that the concept of England and English would have been embyonic at best in 1066.
It seems strange the current English xonophobes would side with the "Germans" rather than the "French". Of course, they were no more German or French than we are "English". I imagine my own DNA to be quite basely prostituted!

Your comment re: Hey'up is very much appreciated.
I'm not the greatest 'performance' poet, but I have the feeling it might be a good one to perform - maybe after 4 pints?
The 'poets with their prissy prose' bit was something I thought I'd put in as a sort of poets in-joke.
