What ho, Yvonne.
Im afraid my laptop gets PMT and goes all moody on me.
What I was trying to say was that A the G did loads of stuff n stuff n stuff like that but only gets remembered for burning the Xmas pud, whereas Nelson isn't quite as nice a fellow as we now think him to be but just because he saved the nation from sea invasion from the surrender-monkey froggies with their distasteful cheeses and surly waiters...
Ok - bad example. Maybe I need to think this through a bit more.

Laura thank you for your comment. I agree re 'lays' and 'lies' and its American-ism. Recently I have been in a quandary as to the grammar. So I have lain the issue to the past(participle).

Many thanks for the kind comments on my poems recently. Sorry I can’t offer a more personal thankyou but I’ve got gremlins in my machine which makes typing a comment over the internet take an eternity. Hence this rather impersonal catch-all done in Word and pasted on-line.

George Orwells book is a spot on allegory for what has happened in Syria over the last 20 years, and Assad does have the eyes of a pig.

You've open the proverbial can 'o' worms here Yvonne. I used to do something with the index of first lines in poetry books. i would read the lines and make a poem out of them. Not changing anything but just taking each first line in the order it was in and create a poem that way. Sometimes they work really well especially if the lines are from a book by a single poet. Try it sometime, it can be quite amusing when you move the emphasis and combine two lines as one.

I sometimes think I should get out more!!!

Hello Yvonne... Thanks for your comment on 'Found Poem'. Cento isn't a word we hear much of these days. But to be honest the poem isn't strictly a 'cento' as that is a direct placement of quotes. Found Poem is a re-arrangement of the words. Here endeth the lecture!

Your 'Kiss' is a good Poem. I've read it about six times and each time it's different. Well thought-out.

Thanks for reading and advice on The Whore's Dream. Yes, that was the only reason I added that clumsy 2nd, to find a home for the Ouse line. And Tithonus reference - I try to avoid doing a 'Geoffrey Hill' as unfortunately classical mythology is no longer in the common domain. Such references were once a useful form of shorthand for writers to use but sadly are no longer so and just give the unwelcome impression of exclusivity

Hello Yvonne. Glad you like "Dream". I'm not sure about your suggestion of the extra syllable (it's the bean counter in me!) but I do like the suggestion about "were" instead of "was". Subjunctive, indeed! I suspect you might know what you're doing!

Thanks for reading Mementos. Yes, about two deaths.None of us recognised how cut up Alastair the knackerman was at losing custody of his children and he took the way out that so many in the farming industry do.( the profession that is top for suicides). If only people would talk and not keep their emotions bottled up. And the other one, the Oxford student, he was wild, wanted to experience everything including death before he reached twenty (told me the day before that he was going to ride his motorbike flat out off the road).
