RE my verse - "in bits"

Laura Taylor responce:
Wed 12th Nov 2014 09:55

"I meant to comment on this at the time - it's stayed with me. The panic, the confusion, the loss of control, the straining attempt to keep the real NOW, and not let go of it, not let it twist itself out of the grasp. It makes me think brain problems/injury/stroke/epilepsy. I become very anxious when I read it.
To make a poem of it - I do admire you for that. I love this one, Tommy."

thanks for commenting on 'Phantoms' Laura - glad you liked it. One of those I didn't really appreciate myself as I wrote it - but when I read it back this morning I thought 'yeah - that works'.
Thanks for getting me onboard with this NaPoWriMo thing - I've enjoyed reading your daily quota and really enjoyed doing it myself. Hopefully this has kick started me down the poetry routes again - as I had drifted seriously off course since last October

I also laughed a lot at some of the lines that 'materialised' in 'Nature's Banquet' Laura - and definitely not one I would have written without the prompt. Glad it made you smile ?

Hi Laura. I too love a turf fire. I worked on a farm in north west Ireland for a couple of summers in my teens, and in the farmhouse we cooked on a turf fire. I also worked in the bog, gathering the turf - hard work! I recently contributed to a "Scent Memories" project, and wrote a piece about the smell of the turf fire based on those summers.

thanks for the comments on 'ub quiz theory' Laura - yes, I'm bitter - because life seems to want to make things as easy as possible for folk these days - rather than test their true mettle - I know who and what I am - and I don't need google to answer for me

Teenagers.

And females not so young either. The saddest sight I ever saw on a tram was a young girl/teen putting on make-up until her whole face looked like an audition for clown-school, a full paste job with a clear outline that completed the mask effect.

I'm sure she thought she was much prettier. And she looked ghastly. Actually ugly. Sometimes I HATE the 'beauty business'; the deliberate exploitation of youthful vulnerability and the degradation of charming, natural beauty.

And those perfume commercials! I almost growl at the TV, wanting to throw a heavy pot through the screen. They are obnoxious!

Laura - I remember you also liked the companion piece to this that I wrote when Philae 'touched down' on the comet a year or two ago ('Philae shakes the hand of God'). I'm losing the plot Laura. Just made a comment re Things to Do and it's vaporised. Milking a cat is a very hazardous thing to do I imagine and I have no idea where that came from. My diseased sense of what sounded good perhaps !
Thanks for reading and questioning.

Just following up on OCD and your comments. Interesting and struck a chord that you touched to equal up - uncannily the same with me. My mum used to encourage to "touch wood" an old superstition. I carried this into various contingencies, and even in my fifties I still kept touching the gear stick in my car (sometimes unconsciously) ! All I can say is that it gave a sense of comfort in some way. Now we have a microphone of course to touch. We all need these touch sensors anyway. What a mess !!

I loved your write up of Linton. I wish I could have been there. I was at Southall fighting with fascists when Blair Peach was murdered. And I have always loved Reggea Fi Peach. I have a poem on here I posted on the Anniversary. sadly not many remember now. Did LKJ do Fi Peach?

I'm glad you commented because I've discovered your collection. I'm an old punk and Thatcher hater unrepentant. Also with a love for Linton kwezi.

Thanks for your comments on These Streets. Yeah, you get it alright. I was exactly the same, always fighting, foul mouthed little cow. You had to be that way! I don't regret it. It fucked me up and made me stronger all at the same time.

It definitely makes me appreciate what I've got now. I feel bloody lucky. Like you, so many people I grew up with are either dead, on drugs, alcoholics or mentally fucked. I've gone down all of those routes (well except death lol) but I made it to the other side. I know it's a bit cheesy, but I feel proud about that :)

'Holly and red berries' are symbols of the 'crown of thorns and the droplets of blood upon the face of Jesus' in the Passion Story of Eastertide. Considering the week, maybe your dream is not so unusual. Perhaps some memory twigged in your mind, even from childhood, especially a ghastly image. Or you're still fighting emotional ideas about the Story you can't yet confront rationally. Maybe never.

That'll be £1000, please. HAHA. I have more crust than bread. I'm part joking and part serious about the comments though. I read Freud's 'Dreams' many years ago; I thought I'd found a treasure in an old second-hand bookshop. But - after several attempts to 'understand the great thinker' I just pitched it. Some of it made some sense, and some of it seemed just like hogwash. I was totally disillusioned in its reputation. So, I'll never know whether I wasn't smart enough to understand, or smart enough to toss it out. Conundrum!

I love having you as a friend. The freedom!
