My grandmother actually learned Russian in her 60's in order to be able to recite Pushkin to me as a child.

She said no westerner could ever understand the beauty of his phrasing and rhymes unless they understood Russian. My grandmother was a remarkable woman...I think she is the reason I try to write poetry to this day...and she's been dead these thirty years.

Thank you for the insight into writing in two languages. Fascinating.

Privet Larissa! I balshoye spacibo! Don't think there's any Cyrillic script on this site. I'm glad you liked the poems. I wasn't sure whether to post them as I thought they might not be of much interest to anyone else. I actually put them up so that I could send them as a link on Face Book to poet I met whose parents are Saudi and Irish! If you're on FB we could hook up. My eldest son worked in Moscow for three years and has recently married a lovely Russian girl.I'm brushing up my Russian so that I can say something to his in-laws! I'd also like to read more Russian. I'm reading some Blok at the minute, 'Dvenatsat'. Poka!

Larisa - yes, the same sentiments exist in East Germany and no doubt other places that used to at least pretend to value equality and humanity over money money money. It's no exaggeration to say that a right wing capitalist with more money than he actually needs would rather see people die than lose an extra penny in tax if he could make that happen!
