Thank you. :)
I have spent the day recovering from the effects of much too much wine and it's been one of those days when bits of the night before come back at you in flashes.... sorry to anyone I may have bored, dribbled on or generally over shared to! It was wonderful to see familiar faces and put the faces to names I only knew from here before. great to see you all, you're a lovely bunch. Well done to everyone organising and competing, what a belting night...or neet!

I think chauv'd means mithered/bothered. Clemt definitely means hungry - my dad used to use it and very occasionally you still hear it round these parts - though much of our dialect will probably die out with all the american tv kids watch - like the correct pronunciation of neither and either.

My dad also used to tell me if I was 'slating'. That means when your underskirt is showing beneath your skirt.Hope you don't mind me poking my nose in - it's a fascinating subject.

Hi - my mother-in-law used to come out with all these sayings & I have absolutely no idea what most of them mean - "I'm chauved d'eath" being one - also clemt ?? It wasn't something I grew up with in Bolton, but she was more towards Leigh XX

How about a globulatiousness of frogspawn! Only jokin'! A glistening tumult? A gelatinous wobbling? I could go on and on! And what's with Tommy's "with" replaced with "was"? Is the Ann he's talking about me? And what IS he talking about. I fear I have missed something! Also, going back to taxidermy, I am not on Facebook. xxxx

Rachel try leaving out completely ''an obscenity of frog spawn'' and add a 'd' to ''an'' and-
''The frog had gone,

and in it’s place

gazing blandly up

with a thousand jelly eyes.

Glad you enjoyed the Kingfisher poem, Rachel. A similar thing happened to me: I carefully prepared to take a picture of an immobile heron on the far side of the canal, poised to seize a fish, marvelling at its ability to keep so still, only to discover it was a plastic one. I need new glasses.
Thanks too for commenting on Eating in Private, and feeling it so much. It's intended to be part of a sequence, which I think you may be embarked on too, with your "war at sea" poems. I'm always looking forward to the next one. You have the knack of referring the past to the present, which maybe I need to do more with mine. Greg

Hi Rachel, sos Ive only just got round to thanking you for your lovely comment on my last poem... Ive had a horrid bug which has laid me up for the last few days. How amazing that you wrote your poem when you did.. like you say great minds!!!!! Although truth to tell theres nothing really new, just our own interpretation of how we see things. Sometimes something we read of others inspires us to write in a similar vein. I know this happened to me with the first poem I ever put up here called "My Little red haired laddie" {still one of my favourites} A poet called Nabila, dont think you ll remember her, shes left the site now, wrote a beautiful poem called "Green Eyes" about a family gene in Afghanistan which produced green eyes. It got me thinking about hereditary, and my little grandsons red hair which came from celtic ancestors generations ago and inspired my favourite poem! Sos I cant say yours did cos I hadnt seen it!! {My psychic link doesnt run to telepathy!!! lol}

Hi Rachel, I have a problem with poem titles too. I sometimes don't hit on the right one for several years! I assumed with Protection Poem that it was an undercover job, so to speak, ie that you'd sent it off somewhere with another title and were disguising it here, as discussed recently on a thread. It's a long time since my kids were that age, but I can still identify with that fierce feeling. Good luck with the competitions and magazines. After a year with the comps I decided that mags were a better bet in view of the odds, publishing between 25-50 poems an issue, as opposed to 1st,2nd,3rd, and possibly ending up with nothing in print. There is the chance of cash with the competitions though, I agree! Greg

Hi Rach - yea, I got the point of your Elvis poem, but I'm sure you don't really look like him first thing in the morning. You shouldn't go to bed wearing the skin tight white leather trouser suite covered in rhinetstones! That's where you've come a cropper! Not sure who I look like when I get up - try not to look!

Hi Rachel,

Very interested in the course you're charting in your war poems of the sea. I've been working for some time on poems about my father's time as a POW in Thailand. By the way, do you have this link? http://www.poetrymagazines.org.uk/
It's just if you're sending any of your poems to magazines - and I hope you are - it's a very useful site, in my experience. Greg

thank you Rachel. That would be a big clue to gender then..ahh lots of tiny cats.. Who was more suprised you or Ronan I wonder?..Our little cat had a kitten once, just one,a thing tinier than her,she didn't know what to do with it,we had to wrap it in a flannel and put it in front of the stove to keep it warm. She got used to it and was a great mum. I once saw a stuffed cat in a weird collection above a garage in Kirkby Stephen,it was playing a very small harp, gave me nightmares for years.thanks again, debx

Hi again I'm actually procrastinating myself. I earn my living these days by selling books on Amazon and am supposed to be listing a load of old stock to make space, but it's very easy to get distracted on the internet, especially when you get feedback on poems! Have a relaxing day. I really must get down to it now. Man cannot live on poetry alone.
