I don't know how I've missed you thus far. I'll really try to catch up. That's an impressive BIO.
Are you trying to look scary in the photo, or just sun-blinded? Or intense and intellectual? Or maybe deeply 'composing'? It's definitely a 'catchy' picture.

Hi Ray, thanks for your feedback on On Leave, encouragement always appreciated. The first line, possibly the last line, belongs to Ernie Pyle, WWII correspondent who, as you may know, was very popular for his companionable, unhyped stories from the front, for the folks back home, who are involved too, of course.
Dom.

Thanks for posting 'Midnight Train to Bulawayo' - I enjoyed it! Were you there in 1997? How long did you stay?
As you know, I grew up in NR/Zambia from 1955 - 75. Last time I was there was in 1971 - a weekend trip to Salisbury for shopping and a new hairdo from Kitwe, on the Copperbelt in Zambia. I spent between 68 - 74 travelling and working between UK and Zambia. Back to Africa every time I got too homesick and saved up for the next trip to UK.
My little brother went to St George's in Salisbury so we'd go down to take him out for a Sunday lunch at Meikles every so often but I only went to Bulawayo twice on the way to SA.
I have added another African poem from my 1968 notebook to my profile... yes, I still have it. Ha-Ha!

Ugly bug ball not at all!
opening vocal cords to uplifting poetry
turning up volume came the applause
Cheering Oldknow crowd while clapping nonstop
they shouted and lifted their glasses
Stockport you have done us proud!

Hello MC. Thank you for taking time to comment on my latest poem The Spirit. It has taken me a good while to reach the point when I am in full control of myself after a lifetime of conformity and being controlled. It is in fact remarkably liberating. Thank you again as I always value what you have to say. Keith

Stu, thank you for your recent comment on my latest poem. I understand what you say. Poets seem attracted by human existence and the world about us which provides a good deal to think about. I first approached religion in a rationalistic way. How did this all come to be? Why am I here? Then there is the faith approach of belief with little or no evidence. This path invariably steers people into some kind of institutionalised religious grouping be it Church , Temple or Mosque. I developed a faith but soon could not cope with institutionalised religion as I found it corrupt and controlling. As I apporach the age of seventy I would describe myself as a free thinker with a profound faith but not one determined by others. Thanks again for your comment. Keith

Hi Harry
Thanks for the comment. I too went in the army 1948. so we both must have been serving together for a while. What a deterrent we two must have been to the forces of communism. For as soon as I was demobbed the Korean war started.

I love your writing style and the way you rhyme. Especially, 'No Plans'. "Flames of grief anew are lit, rekindling fires of loneliness". Beautiful in the most sad kind of way. I have added you to my favorites.

Hello Cynthia
Thankyou for you kind words - about my poem and my poetry group!
It is great fun having a monthly poetic get-together but I think I'm probably more highly valued as an organiser than as a poet - but hey, I'll take whatever appreciation I'm given in life!
Best wishes.
Richard

Hi Phillip
Just came across your poem "Fishing For Fella's" which caught my eye because the title's very similar to one of mine called "Fishing for Poets".
My poem is autobiographical and I was the victim but I like your poem because you show the situation from another angle.
Thankyou for posting it up, it was good to read.

Thanks for the comment on my profile picture, Stu. I sketched that years ago when I was spending much too much time in solitude and it is one of the few things that survived my return to the world.
I hope things are going well with your writing, fella..it's very good to hear from you.

The hard hitting truth is all the trouble with taxis and young girls being abused was happening and reported in 1991 in Hx when we were fostering troubled girls and then in later years their remarks were We know to do things better now .i don't think so . Thank you Harry for your kind comment on 'Gethsemane'. None of us need ask for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for us. The modern equivalent of the international brigades are the young men and women from the UK and elsewhere who make the hazardous journey to N Iraq to fight with the Kurdish YPG against the fascists of Daesh and sometimes don't come home. As was the case with 22 year old Birkenhead volunteer, Luke Rutter, who fell in the attack on Raqqa in July 2017.
Good luck in all you do, Harry!
John

I'm sorry a Welcome to WOL is so late. I'm pretty sure I've commented on some of your other poems, but maybe not.
I'm not on site daily. Sometimes only once a week. But I will make an effort.
