Hi Steve. Thought you did a great job at the Tudor last week. Darren did a lovely review in blog format but for some reason removed it quite quickly so you probably never got to read it.
Hope to see you soon - not sure if I can make the Bards - no-one to go with and a bit under the weather at the moment.

Forgot to say when commenting on the lovely drawing that I like the poem too (the one with the camel). The well is at Madron in Cornwall, though the poem was inspired by Alsia Well, my fave well, but didn't have a picture. But I love all wells.

I just fancied an antidote to the usual claptrap about Xmas

Hi Emma - thanks for printing your poem - it will do there. For future reference, all you have to do is go back to your original blogged poem, edit it and put WOLOP.nov or whatever month we are on, in the tag section, then press update. Your poem was nominated by another poet - I just collect the emails from people and publish the results - it was a good poem though. Hopefully you may like to get involved on the voting side next month - I am trying to drum up support. All you have to do is let me know your favourite December poem by 6th Jan. My email is farmoorgirl@yahoo.co.uk. I will send a reminder out on blogs beforehand though. Merry Christmas. x

Hello Rachel, a very warm welcome to WOL. Loved reading your poems. 'Spring Cleaning' has literally blown me away, but not like an 'autumn wind', more like a breeze of incredible inspiration! What a fantastic imagist you are. It's like seeing a short film inside my head as the message reveals itself through your words.
You're one to look out for!

I enjoyed reading your poems too. The one about the balloon - a tiny catastrophe from childhood! (I still yearn for an old toy dog that my grandmother found in the street and gave to me, only to have my mum throw it away in case it was dirty - maybe there's a poem in there too.) Really liked the one about your dad. The nicotine starfish - great image.

Hi Rachel.

And welcome to WOL. I thoroughly enjoyed your three sample pieces. You obviously have an eye for fine detail, and perhaps more importantly, the ability to convert your observations into very readable and rewarding imagery. I look forward to seeing more.

Hope you enjoy the site. It's generally a friendly interesting and very diverse place.

Hi Martin - thank you for reading my poem. I appreciate comments like this as I have not been writing very long, so try to take these on board. AND I have never read in public - yet! Hope to, although I live in the west country and there's not much that I've found, esp as I have NO CAR. Actually, when I read this poem out loud (to me and my cat) I think it sounds OK. The repetition (lost glove) which someone else commented on was to try and emphasise the presence of a mute insignificant object that just keeps somehow calling you back to pay it some attantion. Maybe it doesn't want to be a lost glove. Maybe one day I'll venture oop north and read it to you! ;-) Or are you in Wales?

Good Evening Andy
When I stop writing I know it's complete.

I have tried many times to expand poems and ended up with over written and over thought waffle.

Mostly after red wine and an argument with a partner.

Thank you so much for your encouragement and taking time to read.

Hi Cynthia. Thanks for your kind comments on The English Teacher. I see you're a teacher yourself and I agree, I don't think Ofsted would have thought much of him! But he was the one teacher at my school that inspired me. Not exactly The HIstory Boys, but that kind of thing. As a result I switched to English in the sixth form and started writing poems while I should have been revising for my O-levels. Greg

Thanks for your comment on the Tiger poem. Personal problems are a misery for the people involved and privacy is also important.

Both of these things are altered by the involvement of the individual in their own use of their character in the promotion of their business. I have put a brief reply in these terms on my blog.

Thanks for your comment John. The soundscape is my son's work and he happened to do it at the same time I wrote the poem and I thought they might go well together. They do, in part, but I think I need a rewrite of the words and he'll take my vox sample and do something a bit better then my poor attempt.

Not sure about gamble instead of gambol - is it really archaic? Perhaps my alleged obsession with sheep has something to do with it :(

Then suddenly there's this feeling (from the old guard?) that maybe i won't be belonging here after all - too many poets!!! How many poets can you get on the head of a pin? Thanks for your comment Cynthia.

I understand your concern about privacy. Every private person has an entitlement to it, but if you have built a career worth a billion dollars on the basis of your public profile, and your personal characteristics are used as part of that income generation, then your life has been exposed to comment by your own decision. Tiger Woods' personal problems are also the problems of Tiger Woods the multi million dollar corporation. The two things are inseparable and that was his choice.
