Thanks so much for your recent comments Cynthia. The title Fable came to mind because the poem made me think of an ancient copy of Aesop's Fables that someone gave me when I was a child. All the stories seemed to be about animals, the illustrations were lovely, and when I saw the dove and the fox in my mind, I thought of that book.

Hi again! Spring is def. on the way! I felt a bit low when I got stuck indoors when it was icy, also, I need to walk at least a couple of miles a day, cheers me up and makes me feel less fat! But (don't tell anyone or they'll have a laugh) I have invested in a slendertone belt - it seems to administer electric currents (otherwise known as shocks!) and makes you all thin and wonderful (?) Anyway, it is a very peculiar feeling! On the instructions it tells you not to put it round your neck, round your head, or on your genitals! ( A bit of a tempatation, that one!) I'm sure there is a poem in there somewhere! lots of love from a very svelt Anniepoo xxx

Hi Rache - nice to have you back - where you 'bin, doing your ironing? Or practicing iambic pentameters? ;-) I NEVER do ironing. I'ved lived here over two years and haven't unpacked the iron yet. My idea of "downsizing" was to give my ironing board away! Thanks for your comment on Moon Girl. lots of love Annie F xxx

hi I should say thanks to all for comments; and thanks to the two people I captured in words, see I was the passer--by, and they were such a lovely scene that a poem came on (that's why the passer-by stopped to say hi while she grabbed pen and pad from bag, and then I moved on but kept looking back watching as the finally made it, held hands walked down to the trafic lights crossed the street, squeezed each other and yup, she smelled the rose...and it WAS a rose a yellowish one...lovely scene. I am not a voyeur I am a poet and refore I the beauty in life.

I must say they were pleasant to me when I stopped, considering..maybe they thought I'd report the theft of a rose from the public park, or maybe they were too loved up to even care!

Hi John - yes, I sometimes feel that I often just say "I really liked this" in my comments, and it is good to get more complex reactions, and I have been lucky so far. Maybe like me, many feel "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all" which really makes the comments nothing but a back-slapping excercise. For me, two things. 1) I am not an experienced critic and feel that commenting negatively is not my place. I've only been writing for a short time, maybe I'll get more confident about this, but I am sure that is how others feel too. 2) A lot of us use poetry to tell the world (or at least WOL!) our innermost feelings/experiences, and this is quite brave for some people (though it doesn't bother me really). And so some of us are delicate little flowers, and may well get upset by comments. It is a hard one! xx

Bienvenue chez nous, Michel.
wonderful alliteration and imagery.
not to mention such erudition: I had to look up whipperwill and procellous.
one line had me puzzling though, and wondering if there was a word missing from it (find, perhaps?):
those who could now themselves strewn

did you write this in English? Do you have it in French, too?
J'attend ta réponse.
cheers

Yeah, that's fine. I feel 'nowt' detracts from the power of the poem but as with all assessments, mine is as subjective (and as faulty) as the next person's.

..thanks for the comment John...yes, I wrote it very quickly and so won't be changing any words (including 'nowt')..if you look at chris co's comment he advised lots of edits which I don't understand...you can't edit a sudden verbal outburst, so why this?..having said that I am re-assessing stuff I wrote in my 20s...but I wasn't so concerned with life's mistakes and errors then..!

I will check the library on Monday for the novel you recommend.
One winter while visiting my sister in Canada I got completely snowed in for three days. She had a 'heritage' Bible from the late 1800's, a tome so big I had to spread it on a table to read. But I amused myself by reading completely through Paul's contributions to the canon. It was one of the happiest three days of my life; I was mesmerised once more, and privileged to stay with my reading for hours, immersion in 'his' words and philosophy. I never use the word 'doctrine' anymore. The fine aspects of Paul far outweigh the nonsense, although he has much to answer for in strait-jacketing Christian concepts about men and women. Well, hardly more than St. Augustine who really did a number with 'original sin'.

Hi Ann, Ta 4 the feedback on "Grieve Voyeur". I think the point I was making is that if you go from being a morbid spectator to a paid counsellor in order to fulfill a need to experience grief there comes a time when you are going to get rumbled. I am sorry you didn't pick this up.I will have to rethink the draft.
Kind Regards, Neil

Hi Cynthia, thanks for sending "Perspective" to me.

I enjoyed it very much, in its themes and in its writing, and of course the use of the phrase "through a glass darkly". How right to bring to the fore the fact that we can have but imperfect vision and understanding.

Paul is so quotable. I loved what he said about fighting the good fight and running the race to the finish.

If you haven't already read it, I recommend the novel "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" by Muriel Barbary. It's about some of the very things your poem touches upon ... being considered an outsider, scholarship, humility. It's a lovely, philosphical and humane story.

Very best wishes,

Steve R

Hello Cynthia and many thanks for your kind comments about "Mole".
I used funereal gauze as trees in mist/fog always remind me of being under burial shrouds.
I used nauseous because the oppressive silence when one stands in a snowscape can be really debilitating. Funiily enough I didn't reckon on their rhyme value, Regards, Graham
