Hi - "The sky was blue
the grass was green".
I hope you're going to post this ? It's way too good just be a foonote to our daft conversations. Either you took all day on this or you write poetry like the rest of us take a P*ss !
You obviously have a great talent -I wish I could write stuff to order (I've tried) but with me its just there or its not. Bravo !

Hi Isobel. Thanks for the comments on my Incubus. I read it out to myself without the word "loneliness", but I didn't feel the implication of loneliness was obvious enough. Without that word the poem could be read as a fear of sex. (As if!)

I thought it might be, the metaphysical is such a wonderful area to explore. And I'm so with you on the paper copies. I started my paper anthology before I ever put a poem to type and I've lost enough computer files along the way to continue with it.

Heather, I've been away for several days and am only just getting back into the loop. I enjoyed your comments on my last two pieces, especially 'the little leaf'. Perhaps this poem is too close to the metaphysical, like fairy tales, fables and myths whose real value lie in their undercurrent of life teachings. That 'little leaf' was an instant idea and a great effort to capture. Your bio sure shows a lot in common with my background. Save ALL your stuff in hard copy too; paper might yet outlive electricity. Runes in stone are a bit over the top. :)

Hi Ann - I was into digital photo editing to a small extent 25 years ago - but it was getting my hands on the RISC OS system that radically improved things for me - Photodesk was incredibly powerful even 15 years ago - much easier than Photoshop on the PC. You can of course buy photo clip art discs with 'royalty free' images on them - a safe way to find a suitable image. My own interest was born out of the need to provide large images for exhibition panels - most enlargements looked 'blocky' or pixelated when we used the zoom functions on our big colour copier, so I would scan the images into the computer and do what I could to soften the ragged edges, hehe. It can be fun playing with photo editors, but I've yet to find a windows program I like to use for that purpose. best wishes, Dave

Interesting about the photo Dave. Are you well up on this sort of stuff? I am in a pickle over photos at the mo. I often used to use stuff from Flikka but now Flikka seems to have changed and you can't copy/save an image (or I don't seem to be able to!) I suppose it was prob not legal or something to use the photos? But it was called "Photo sharing" so I did! Will I have to get a camera now and spend all day taking photos to use? And scan stuff from books etc (prob illegal too?) Or have no photo image to go with a poem? That always seemed an integral part of it to me. Oh pooh! xx

Hehe - and who am I to deny it Ann? ;) The picture is a composite I made from some of my digital photos - the sky from the fens, the wildfowl from Peakirk bird park, the 'house' derived from the village school house - all heavily edited in Photodesk about 12 years ago on my trusty RISC-OS computer... Best wishes, Dave

Once again many thanks for your great comment as usual.

Not wanting to labour the issue too much, but, the penny finally dropped for me in the shower this morning as to why that word has a dirty ring to it! Con means cunt in french and probably other latin languages also. You could call it a fatal combination!

Hope to see you at one of these arty things that are on over the next week. Louise is organising some workshop in Wigan museum on Thursday - you should try to get a babysitter!
