Hiya Lynn
re: 'Impossibility'; some of the stanzas work really well even though they don't scan. [p'raps 8 beats to each line?] However I did trip several times over,
'Soon we expect to meet again,
I wonder will it be with a kiss?'

It is wonderful..light, sweet and airy..when home-made the bought stuff does not hold a candle to it..served in a very thin glass tumbler, sugared and put into the fridge to cool it's magical..ok ok perhaps I am gushing a little too much but I do like it!

Hi Larisa - cheers for your kindly comments. And by the way - 'SUMMER, AUTUMN, WINTER, SPRING': lucky whoever to have someone feel that way about them. A simple, spare, well-crafted poem that says it all and more.

probably wait a while and enter it nearer to the competition completion date...with the tag line suitably amended!

Hello chuck

Just a note to say that your piece 'Be Grateful' isn't quite tagged correctly if you want it going in the competition.

At the moment, it is tagged 'WOL,com' and it should be tagged 'WOL comp' or it won't appear in the tagged list :)

Thanks for the comment on `Fairy` John.

I caused a bit of consternation at uni when I said I didn`t particularly like novels. (because they took too long to say what they had to say)

I still had to read the bloody things though!

Thanks for the comment on `Fairy` John.

There was a famous raid in the south end years ago when the lodge raided St Ptricks and tried to lassoo a statue from the front.

It was great...they could have made a thriller out of it.

Hi MC
As ever ...
6:30
If I'd wanted a 'comment' that understood what I was trying to get across, I couldn't have wanted anything better than yours.
It was originally written for a very specific (personal)reason, but I then realised that with a bit of editing, it covered all the bases you mentioned.

Hello, John!
Thank you very much for the comment on "Glamour" Actually I don't speak here about people's pronunciation but about the etymology of some words. I remember quite well the words of professor Higgins in "My Fair Lady": The French they don't care what they do actually as long as they pronounce it properly; the Scots and the Irish leave you close to tears; there even are places where English completely disappears. In America they haven't used it for years. And...the main words: This is what the British population calls an elementary education. So, it's the question of education. I've heard many Americans, Australians and so on and understood that all depends on your culture, intelligence and education. You could be from not English speaking country but your English would be so good that no one ever guess where you've come from.
As to Ukrainian it is very soft language. As Italian it sounds like music. The sounds of proper English I love so much.

Thanks for your comments on "Our Tom", Isobel.
I read it to him and gave it to him framed for his 21st birthday. Apparently it's on his bedroom desk! There really wasn't any sadness at his leaving.
He's always been a smashing lad, a bit unlucky with the girls but he could make a fortune as a cruise ship gigolo - he has an attraction for women of a "certain age".

Lovely, as ever, to get your thoughts. It's not difficult to understand the basis for the poem, but a small explanation
Ann died on the 1st August (5 years ago) which is Yorkshire Day (Yorkshire as you may know, from your school history lessons, is the white rose county

Lovely to have met you at Arvon too. I re-drafted Wife and Mother there, I had stupidly tried to give it a happy ending (for years), softening it so it didn't have an upsetting effect on folk. In its original form the ending always kind of irritated me, and I kind of felt "permission" to give it the proper last two stanzas there and remove the false ending. One of those poems which is coloured by whether the person reading / hearing it knows the background or the writer, no idea how it works if you know neither!
