Hi Dave :o) I think you have hit it spot on. I wanted to evoke a feeling of regret and in-consequence. The brief emotion when finding a lovers note between the pages of a rarely read book.

Hi John :o) You raise an interesting point re the 'it' in the first two stanzas. The placement and inclusion of 'it' is to impress the reader of the stress of the lines and by its use causes the line to flow more rhythmically. I appreciate you raising the point.

Hi Ann. Thx for the comments. In this case it felt right to use the lines unaltered. I was suprised how much of a flow was achievable using over 70% of first lines from recent blogs which should be about entirely ramdom subjects.

JC - I have tried to locate Yvonne B. by clicking on her name when locating comment by
her - and also by searching under her name. In
both instances, there was no sight of any PROFILE PAGE or place where I could see I was able to leave a message.
I hope you can resolve this with Isobel - apropos my previous comment about my own problem with "permissions". ALSO - does YB
HAVE a profile page - as seen in yours and mine?
If not, has this been deleted and does she know? As I said before...weird!!

JC - as a matter of interest, I have been in
touch with Isobel (moderator on WOL) about having that "permissions" issue with another
site (from a post on I tried to read from 13/2/2013 - "All Grown Up"). In that instance, she said the user profile had been
deleted and that the post in question had
hung around for whatever reason and should go in due course. Weird!
I will pass your message to Yvonne and hope
I don't get a repeat of the problem myself when
doing so.

Hello MC,
Many thanks for your thoughts on "Our Gert" and "The plays of William Shakespeare...". The former is as close as I've got to writing a love song! The latter was inspired by an old joke about a bloke who wrote some of the world's best melodies but they never got published, like, "Life is just a bowl of f****g cherries".
On another front I don't seem able to write my thanks on Yvonne Brunton's Profile page. It tells me I don't have the necessary permissions.
As a favour do you think that you might post on her page to say that I am unable to do so? I feel terribly impolite not being able to respond to the kind comments she makes.

I think:
1st offence - fine
2nd offence - put the dog down
3rd offence - put the owner down.

Thanks for your thoughts on "Pick It Up". I'm not sure I agree with you that there's a lot less of it about, although if there's the same number of dogs about as there was 20 years ago and there's more people picking it up than there was 20 years ago, there must be less dog shit about (unless dogs are shitting more!).

With this title it was more an image-association thing with me so I understand must be difficult for anyone else to follow. That's the trouble with me not having really shared my poems much up to now, in that I can't really get a good sense of what I'm doing right or wrong.

You're right about the title. But it was more of an image-poem here rather than following a clear meaningful narrative, which can sometimes backfire with me. For people who like certainty and not just messing around for words, I guess this poem isn't going to be their thing."
