Thank you for your thoughtful comment. You’re right — it’s striking how questions of freedom and oppression are not confined to distant places, but can surface uncomfortably close to home as well. Of course, the scale and intensity in North Korea are extreme, yet your example is a reminder that vigilance for liberty is needed everywhere. Poetry can hold both truths at once: the suffering of those far away, and the warning signs in our own societies.

Whilst not wishing to belittle your entirely valid observations on North Korea, Roplh....in the UK, a law student is arrested under terrorism charges, for organising a Zoom meeting in which anti-genocide protesters are given legal advice.
Too close to home for comfort!
