Beautiful and beautifully told, Rolph.

Surrounded as we are by the wants and woes of our fellow-men, and yet given to follow our own pleasures, regardless of their pains, are we not like people sitting up with a corpse, and making merry in the house of the dead?

Herman Melville

Hello you two,
I'm glad you enjoyed my poem again. It is based on a fairy tale by H. C. Andersen, which once moved me a lot as a child and inspired me to cast it into a poem. It is due to poetic freedom that it does not follow the rules of grammar in parts. Please forgive me for this.
Happy holidays and a happy new year,
best wishes,
Rolph

Thank you so much, Rolph for a potrayal of the harsh realities of life suffered at all times of year by the unfortunate in our society.

Reading your poem brought a tear to my eyes, as it reminded me of the heart-rending fate which befell poor Fanny Robin in the film which I recently watched: “Far from the Madding Crowd”. Thanks again.
