The Aussies cannot turn their back on the tourists money. NYE is an incredible experience in Sydney that I have been lucky enough to experience. It takes so long to organise it would be impossible to stop the night and foolish too. The waterfront businesses, shops, restaurants, bars and boat trips would lose millions! Get over it and look forward. Spend more money on early cool season burning (which didn't happen this year) to reduce the impact of the dry season. Saving a buck here and there is short-sighted. Lose the semantics and manage the land properly!
There, that should put a smile on your face Don, a pommie telling you what to do for a change!
Happy New Yer to al my Aussie mates (believe it or not there are quite a few).

I agree with you. This new day has made you differently serious poet. I'm used to your humour.... Although your concern for poor n homeless is thought provoking.... Fireworks is much of waste.
Raising Awareness poet!!
