I can't believe you were John
An awkward little cuss
The apple of his mother's eye
He was, to her, no fuss
I could go on. But I won't....

The cockney "Cheers, me old China" has just achieved a new
resonance in today's world of great expectations and limited common
consultation. Just when Hauwei - a word uncomfortably close to "how" and "why" -
is featuring prominently in this brave new global world! We may comply with what we are told to do but we should never cease
asking questions about the how and why!.

what was so good about our session is when main picture of the poet speaking changed to another - - - sometimes it showed an empty chair maybe they could not wait for the break!

thanx for the kind comments lads - Sweet are my favourite band of all time (still) and I've bought all their singles, albums, books, gigs - still going strong (Although only the lead guitarist is still playing) but they do still sound great.
Terrible way for Brian Connolly to go - you're right - and he did live in Hayes along with Mick Tucker (drums).
A lot of the music was naff - but still better than 90% of the auto-tuned rubbish in the charts today ?
I touched on some of the glam traits in an earlier piece (similar style and a bit of crossover) but if you fancy listening to how I changed that earlier poem into a glam song - follow the link ?
Thanks again for commenting ? x

Hi, Isobel!!!
I seriously wondered about sharing this poem. It makes me look a bit of an arrogant monster. But that wasn't 'it' at all. I felt such empathy with the young man, respect for him, and sincere caring about him.
Religious leaders of any kind are firstly just 'people'. A Scottish minister I knew was a brilliant Bible scholar, steeped in theology and world history. Every Sunday morning and evening, each sermon was mentally and emotionally charged. Bible Studies sparkled with challenge and conflict. I absolutely loved every session that he conducted. I respected him wholly. He was my 'hero'. He was.
And then he was fired! He was 'unsuitable' to the daily 'needs' of the congregation, not enough 'softness', the pat phrases. And it was a congregation of predominantly university graduates!
I was shocked, even angry, but mostly shocked. I sure had a lot to think about. Still thinking.

An exciting era, though to be honest a lot of the music was a bit naff.
I worked for three record companies from 1974 - 1981. EMI, United Artists and WEA. Not on the glamour side, I was more production and distribution, but nevertheless rubbed up against some of the glam rockers of the day, hardly recognisable without their woad. I left the business as punk and ska were at their height.
Sweet - the lead singer was Brian Connolly. The band rented a house for a while near Heathrow Airport. Brian and another guy (not a band member) chatted up my sister and her mate in a pub in Hayes Town and drove them home, so I met him in my Mum's front room. He came from quite a humble background, Glasgow I think.

Thanks for the comment on H&M Don! From what the gossip mags say Episode 3 won't be far off! I suppose one could admire them for saying they want to be financially independent, even if I gather it is Prince Charles who is coughing up large sums to keep up their lifestyle. It just seems a pity about the family bust up, and I would think he might be a little lost in Hollywood after the novelty value has worn off. Let's hope I'm wrong.
