You cover so many things in four verses, Greg. It's nearly two years since I was in London and your poem beautifully describes a city that I have never seen.

I can relate to the part about being offered a seat. I remember the first time it happened to me (age 59!). Not sure whether to be indignant or grateful (in fact, I was about to get off, so declined).
I suppose one would have to disinfect it now.

But my question remains:
What is unsafe about the famous lands that comprise the fount
of European civilisation from which these people choose to
populate our sea-girt historically Christian shores?

A lovely vignette of uneasy calm Greg. I remember the city during my young days on a bike, the same atmosphere. I was the only one though! I can't understand the head down mentality !

Demonising Donald? I'm old enough to remember the Sinatra . song "Tangerine" - with its bright upbeat theme. Those that
concern me more move through the shadows of deceit disguised as virtue and ineptitude masquerading as efficiency.

Thanks to Hugh, Adam, Rudyard and Holden for reading and liking this poem.
Keith - thank you for your comment. I tried to make the poem as melodic as its subject (a task which is probably beyond anyone!)
Stephen - thanks for entering into the spirit (I promise I won't pull any strings etc, not to mention rolling over..)
Julie - yes, I think the prisoners' chorus is one of the high points of this most human of composers.

Optimism - surely the one "ism" to be followed and employed
whenever the opportunity arises. It is the bedfellow of hope, without which life would merely be "existence".

Too many people not taking elementary care of themselves
in this "entitled" age seems a prime reason for NHS overload.
A solution lies before our eyes
Where appropriate the need to privatise.
Undisciplined unhealthy flesh abounds
Confronting doctors on their rounds
Wasting public money obscenely
Instead of treating our pockets meanly.
Too much to bear for the NHS budget
In a service whose maxim today is "fudge it"!

More entertaining sardonic stuff from this source.
Personally I'd have replaced "the case referred" in the penultimate
verse with "the judgment refers" - to chime with "the rest is hers".
But that's purely a personal POV. from a rhymester! ?

Echoing Stephen and KJ Walker's comments here, Kelvin. Thank you for posting this. As you outlined, men are brought up being taught just to 'suck it up', which is totally unfair. It takes courage to be vulnerable. As a mental health nurse practitioner, I appreciate the stigma of men being seen as being 'less manly' through simply asking for the help that we all need at different times. Posting reflections like yours here, are a way to break down that stigma.
Keep writing and smiling.
Warm wishes,
Rasa
