Mosey has two syllables with the sofy y at the end
and is therefore easier on tongue and mind.
"Jaunt" to me is too harsh! With that mean T at the end!
Just my opinion.
I prefer to Mosey, rather than jaunt!

a subtle and lyrical poem with a violent twist which describes a rictus of time with events of horror as a background to the comfort of the known and loved. Highly effective in my opinion , another layer of what we can only imagine at the present time.

Thanks MC. I can only agree with your sentiments. I suppose the poem is saying that the issues we most need to write about are those we are most likely to avoid.
Discretion versus valour, as it were.
I appreciate your contribution greatly π

So were we in 1940 before ongoing supplies from beyond these
shores helped make a difference in the months and years that followed. Russia might well discover the truth of the old adage:
"There's many a slip twixt cup and lip" and that even conquering
a country doesn't ensure success in holding it.

If this relates to a Russian with a strangely English surname
found hanging around in a Wentworth garage, the investigation
seems to be commensurate with the times, e.g. taking nothing
for granted. Maybe a case of "watch this space"? (I'd be looking for an almost invisible injection mark for a start!) Evening all.!

Much to ponder here, in both the content of this poem and the
comments it created. I'm reminded of some lines seen in my
youth. -
Never let your friend your secrets know
For if your friend becomes your foe
Around the world your secrets go.
It is a fact of life that many things, including feelings and the circumstances that see their emergence, do change and we can
wonder how or why we said or acted as we did. A little self-examination and that old reliable called "discretion" is often wise.

Yes. I like the way that you maintain the pace of the poem and the pathos in the end. As for alcohol, it is a good friend and an horrendous enemy.
Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.

Thanks Adam,
I am proud to have made you think! And you don't need to defend your position. Most confessional poetry is twaddle! I do confess though that this poem was partly inspired by your poem 'All contributions gratefully accepted' which made me think about the processes involved in creative writing. π

I've never been drawn to 'confessional poetry', not that I say (very often) it's tiresome juvenile twaddle. Do I need to defend my position here? Well, hey, it's not all about me. Of course, of course, but this poem does make me think...
and that's a good thing.

Sorry MC.
But I have to agree with John on this one.
I think that it's shameful how little help the rest of the world (including us) has given.
I'd hate to be a decision maker at this time... Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
But we all seem to be sitting on our hands, just waiting to see what unfolds.
Ukraine is suffering unimaginable damage, and we should all unite to do whatever we can.
