Down was indeed a typo. Should be don't. This clown is indeed a very clever one.

I know I'm not skilled in the intricacies of poetic appreciation, but I understood the idea was to communicate to the reader in a way they could understand and take something worthwhile away. I'm sorry, but I haven't a clue what you're talking about or trying to communicate here.

Hi there Martin,
Hope you're keeping well, and thanks so much for your feedback.
No, I didn't watch the telethon. Really the idea just sprang from the first two lines that just popped into my head, and I kind of rolled with it.
Glad you enjoyed.
Cheers,

Decisions, decisions..
Which Ray poem should win Poem of the Week - Lonely Raconteur or this? I couldn't put a piece of paper between the two; I love them both.
A wonderful extended thought-meditation, this one. Perfect.
Oh, and glad to hear you performed Lonely Raconteur too, and that it received the response it deserves.
Nice one Ray!

The collage is built on the meeting's poems and the common theme which underlies them. However, there are sometimes synchronicities at work which are hard to explain. For example, the motif of one-eyedness which defines this collage arose quite spontaneously in the separate contributions of three different participants.

This lovely read is pure poetry, a stunningly simple, breathtaking piece.

I like the "comedy of euros" (comedy of errors?) line and
can see where this come from - and its reasons.
Boris - for I suspect he is your target - is no dumbo. And
that view is endorsed by having read his tome about W.S.
Churchill - a work that shows BJ as far more incisive and
shrewd than the media reports or his own clowning around as a man of the people indicate to date. Beware of the
court jester...whose task was and is keep the ruler aware.
P.S. Is "down" (last line) a typo for
"don't"?

Amusingly provocative - with some uneasy truth along the
way.
I have a newspaper cutting from some years ago about a
poet and critic who loathed what he referred to as "concrete
poetry", lamenting the decline of rhyme, with its basics of
inspiration, discipline and vocabulary. He might have
nodded in agreement with your (I suspect somewhat
mischievous) sentiments.
Old poets are like old wine - to be savoured in modest
but appreciated amounts.

Whilst I could be included under "privilaged (sic) white git",
it indicates a certain state of mind to make the assumption
in any accusatory sense in the absence of actual knowledge.
Talent may well benefit from diversity but ergo, diversity
may well benefit from talent! By all means encourage the
desire to participate from anyone exploring the world of
poetical pleasures - from whatever origins or source and for
whatever reasons. The classroom is a good place to start.
Meanwhile, recalling Oscar Hammerstein's words:
"It's a waste of time to worry over things that they have not".

excellent, interesting article.
nonsensical to believe that you wake up one morning as a poet. nurturing under-appreciated voices is how we found several of todays top writers. i find its getting the balance right which is tricky.
i do find it strange that people get upset about something that can only be a positive. take away all the snobbery and what your left with is 'we want more people to write poetry' which doesnt seem like a bad thing to me.

Every person, be they politician or not has good points and bad points. We need to dwell on their good points while not necessarily ignoring their bad points. Trump has heavily divided people by his actions. My poem was based on a report from our local paper.

Either you can communicate or you can't. Either you have
a potential audience or you don't. Either you have a gift
of language that reaches out or you don't.
Refer to the famous American author James Baldwin for

It has always interested me that the
"far left" of politics - wherever they
are found - seek and often succeed in convincing people that they are
misunderstood champions against
an enemy labelled "fascism" - and the
opposite applies, of course,
So - this is a useful reminder that democracy, with all its faults, is
preferred to any alternative in an imperfect world. The right (and
duty) to ask questions and criticise goes hand in hand with that
concept, much as it may dismay
and discomfort those seeking
primary power over their fellows, ready to send them into the
realms of night and fog or the gulag - and their death-dealing
equivalents when challenged.

I think you'll be OK here with anything having a pop at those who don't display immediate empathy and interest
in the many causes and complaints that gain media
interest nowadays and appeal to the disaffected and (in
their minds) downtrodden among us.
The office of president in the USA is the equivalent of head
of state and that alone deserves the courtesy and respect
due to our greatest friend and ally in peace and war...with
all its faults. Trump came from a business background, not
a political one and it shows in his attitudes and outspoken
views. He has set out to achieve what he promised - something unheard of in the political never-never land of
promises and good intentions. For that alone, he is
worthy of a polite well-mannered reception here when
our own politicians seem increasingly divorced from the
people they supposedly represent.
