Keith has got this ripple
This ripple raspberry thing
Methinks he has been starved of it
And now he's on a binge

I can but only warn you both
That binging on such treats
Can have a fatal feetal end
Of reducing length of feet

Didn't you know this?....?

dk you've come down on me hard
I was taught all my alphabet at school
I learnt all the characters required for
Graffiti-ing team motto (which was cool)

From here I turned graffiti professional
And like others I didn't get caught
I learnt how to read and to write right
Hence this one did not go to court ?

This is not only an issue in the USA but here in the UK also where sport is given a disproportionate amount of TV coverage and in some schools overrides the academic curriculum. Little wonder the young kick balls whilst they can´t evern compose a sentence. Sport is important for many reasons but should never interfere or compete with academia. Your poem is one which will provoke quite some reaction, but your premise is true.

Thank you for this

Hi Keith

Brilliantly conveyed, reminds me of my Parents constant threat to make me wear red wooden clogs as a young lad, although this, thankfully, never came to fruition. I laugh about it now, but constantly tried to hide them for fear of being made to put them on.

Poor you in that get up! It's made for a great read now, however.

John,

You are right, together their impact is frightening. Where did this spate or plague of violence come from. It is not endemic to our culture? These types of gangs are common place in the USA but in England. It is of growing concern and increasingly so as it seems that no one can halt it.

Thank you for this expose

I am not sure about that line since chocolate would have been more appropriate,
after all, fair's fair, the men did get brandy.

Hi Martin.

This is a flawless, mellifluous, engaging and ultimately life-asserting poem which seems to have delighted just about every WOL reader!

I thoroughly enjoyed the read and am glad I eventually stumbled upon it. (I am still bemused by the system whereby poems enter into and emerge from nooks and crannies in the edifice....)

I love that your poem blends perfectly with the accompanying picture.
I am a great fan of monochrome having being brought in a monochrome world, when the only colour we had as a kid was at the cinema and some early bad colour photography.
A marvellous portrayal from the opening lines of repeated wording right through to the end.

Apocalyptic beauty and horror go together with this Stu. I'm thinking of War of the Worlds, but at least with that there was a happy ending and a lesson learned. These dogs are like originals, not the pampered pooches we see in peacetime. That crackling simile is just great!

Nice to see full on Stu.

dk are you suggesting a
Reserve that's woman-free?
Not sure how that would go down
With this still-virile me

Picture all the women
Poets wanting in
Drooling at the boundary
Getting high on vin

I'm mucking up your poem

Think I should just drift away

Don Good photo
Governments all over the world are ignoring the stark warnings held within poems and videos like these.

Why? dare I suggest that they (Governments) are not in control -business is,
and dareI I suggest that, Trump like, some members of 'Government' have a lot to gain.

Or am I just cynically spreading 'fake news'

As an old poet approaching extinction I support the idea of a reserve in a place of tranquility where we can hang up our pens as we are called by the great poet in the sky to a place of eternal verse. However, in the meantime I would appreciate that the reserve has a constant supply of best bitter and pickled eggs with potato crisps for purposes of inspiration.

A good idea
Thanks
