Saga of April Dark: Song Four

Vera was my brother's love
Loud and vibrant and cared little for chores
Wild as vine she was with him when
Anders mistook her veil for hair
And sunk in his knife as he pulled Tole off her

She screamed as blood spread upon
Tole's shirt and down the seam
In a rage Anders pulled his knife up
Splitting my brother's spine
and then cut his throat

Anders ran as Vera screamed
And Ann and I came quickly running
Ann ran for Robert, son of Doctor Hall
And I held my brother
Trying to hold off the cold

His blood soaked into my dress
Soaked through the loose strands of my hair
I couldn't tell how loud was my wail
I was trying so hard to keep him there
But he was already gone
His eyes were matte
His lips were cold
His hands were slack
