The descent into Hades’ and beyond!
He had an absence behind his eyes
He walked and talked and breathed.
But it was as if something had left him
As if something was taken from him.
Only partially in the present
As if some deeper part of him
Had been long extinguished.
We conversed long in to that dark night
Me, trying to get the measure of the man
Him, giving no outer indications of malady
The descent into Hades’
In stillness he sat, unmoving, silent.
I was speaking, but it was as if he could not hear me
Then slowly his seat started to turn
Round, and round, and round, he slowly span
Spinning from this world to a world far beyond
It seemed as if he, he was drawing me in
I sensed an uneasy feeling, of drifting, falling
Down, down, downwards, unendingly downwards.
The light seemed to darken and shadows flitted.
Flittered across the walls of what I can only describe as... a well.
A well that stretched both upwards towards the light
And downwards, downwards in equal measure to a point of utter darkness below
Tumbling, tumbling, spinning and spinning ever faster downwards
Downwards as the now tiny spot of light above, became completely extinguished
I found myself drowning in a pool of shadows and waifs
Screaming silently and calling out within my mind.
Each voice echoed out from within the silence.
Pleading, imploring me to lift them from this dank place of utter destitution
I could feel hands grabbing, grasping at my garments
Fingers with long sharp nails, ripping at the very fabric of my being
Tearing though the sinues in my skull, sucking all the air from my lungs
Gasping for breath, I could feel my very soul departing with each exhalation
Drowning in a vacuum of hopelessness', turbulence and despair
Feeling everything! and yet... Nothing, nothing of me now remained.
Except, that is, to say my name.
Engraved at the bottom of this well so deep,
with no light to illumine its secret keep
Po. ‘The anonymous Poet'
Although surrounded by a darkness so black
So obscure, I sense a doorway exists within these walls
Reaching out I touch the dank and chilled brickwork
Feeling its coarseness, and the icy water seeping, permeating its joint’s
I run my fingers along the seems that dissolve beneath my touch
I sense a void beyond the compacted dust of each brick
That magnetically pulls my body forwards towards it
Leaving the restricted confines of my imprisonment
I find a great sense of expanse beyond all finite boundaries
My mind expands exponentially, encompassing the infinite
Space beyond all my comprehension’s
A light so bright, floods my whole being
I stand on the edge of the Etheric, watching the heavens unfold
Clouds of every colour, drift, float, mantle and slowly lift me upwards
Rising ever higher I watch the orbit of the stars forming
A firmament swirling, forming the heavens, creating a new Cosmos
I saw it, felt it, sensed it, knew it was perfect.
A creation of such epic proportions, likened to the very creation of inception.
A new Alpha, the Omega, passed along with our Earth’s demise
I stood witnessing a brand-New Dawn. This I perceived; I was indeed Reborn.
