Walking into the light

entry picture

Walking into the light

My minds messed up, deep inside my head

Like its backwards facing, waiting to be led

Staring through the darkness, blacker than the night

My eyes opened wide, yet unable to see the light

My feet are facing forwards, yet alas I cannot run

Shackled hands behind my back, can’t move fingers or my thumbs

I can feel my heartbeat beating, deep within my chest

Lungs expending and contracting... Slowing, ‘neath my breast

A single round encroached, lead burning, molten hot

Mercury tipped, hollow point, the assassin’s toxic shot

I sense my body falling, watch it slumping to the floor

My eyes behold a brilliant light, that streams from Heavens door.

Death claimed my forsaken body, I need that cadaver no more

Another senseless victim, of another drug lords war.

Charlotte your comments on this poem are so welcomed my friend.

The comments that others make, such as yours, and all those below
make it worthwhile knowing that what we write suspends us, at a certain line, word, sentiment that we may absorb the poets musings.

Thank you once again for looking back to see what's ahead.

Hello Jeff

Thank you for dropping in and reading this. Your comments are most welcomed.

The video of Ben Okri's 'If you want to see how the poor die' made me cry. it is as you say, so moving.

He is such an inspiration.

Hi Keith that is praise indeed my friend thank you very much for commenting.

Still I believe, a hanging offence to use, according to the 'The Geneva Conventions'

Not something you can just knock up on your kitchen table... thankfully!

Also not something the average Joe can tolerate... those kind of tolerances (wink wink).

All this laughter, fun
Life's not full of fun and games
Just cos one Aussie puns

Who does he really think he is?
Life's full of gore and shit
He told me how to handle this
Just simply ig-nore it

What's that ?....

No I don't know him.....

Fascinating piece Po. To go inside the mind of someone transitioning from a toxic life. Bittersweet. 🖤

Hi fans!!!!!

This is one of those sad but true poems.

Based on a cold case.

Nothing like a piece of realism to bring the tone down.

All this fun and laughter has GOT to stop!

Remember, life is a bit of shit... then you don't die!
