The End

She was just skin and bone at the end

lying there in that care home bed

on borrowed time with no more to be lent

not quite alive, but not quite dead.

Her eyes were half-closed, unblinking

her breathing steady but shallow

their mother was slowly sinking

their Mum had left many months ago

Powerful in its almost brutal brevity. As someone who can bear
witness to such a scenario, I can vouch for its reality. Painful - but
essential reading for a glimpse of what happens to many.
