of a snuffing out

for how long will

the golden mane of the lionesque sun

unwind earthwards

before he and humanity

have to face the slow coming truth

of him having to burn to death

in his own fire

taking his life-giving light and warmth

with him

leaving the world to deal with a frightening

and possibly short future

their backs up against the walls

of a darkened nuclear-wintered planet.

Will the light of their hopes

shine bright enough

to usher themselves to their new seats

in the halls of adaptation

or will there be a scrambling race

to the launch pads

privileged tickets in hand

for futile journeys?

Happy National Poetry Day Rose. A stunning piece of climate change awareness here, really heart felt.

Rose...this is really a great poem. I love the description/personification of the sun. Stuff like this makes me wish I got on here more often.

Or open one of those old flip-top phones and say "Beam me up Scotty"? I think it's got a few billion years before that happens Rose, but I'm sure we'll have destroyed the planet long before then to prompt that scrambling race.
