The Tree in My Garden

The tree in my garden never bares strange fruit

is never draped with torn limbs or guts

the tree in my garden is a refuge for birds

and apart from its growing does nothing much

No burning crosses rage on my lawn

no carpet bombing laid down at dawn

no drought or famine to wither the root

the tree in my garden grew free from a chute

It shades all my summers and shelters my storms

sheds leaves and colours the sky

it nourishes my pages the whole year through

and offers my eyes their predominant view

I write poems on it and sketch out its form

observing its beauty from dusk until dawn

for all it is and ever will be

is a solitary standing lucky old tree

Thanks Adam,

don't worry about the blog trail, I often have various cyber conversations ongoing at any one sometimes conversation spills into other blogs.

All this and real life too eh,

Thanks Devon,

I agree that there is room for all to write about whatever they wish and have open discussion about whatever they wish (within site guidelines of course)

What is any form of art if not an attempt to initiate communication?

Thanks again,

Wonderful read.
It feels like trees contain all the poetry needed. My orchard is an endless source not only of fruit but is quite fruitful in other ways. I often feel I have missed some reference in a comment stream but I hope you take only the good ones to heart.

Thanks Rachel,

I appreciate that response very much amused me.

I suspect had any one been dull enough to be more interested in that than the subject matter (which was obviously written to promote discussion and debate) she might have suggested where they get off.

Comments sections eh, I mean who'd have thought people might dare to comment and reveal things about themselves in order to promote further discussion...what is the world coming to?

Whether pretty, uncomfortable, ugly or simply odd, we are all here to share our thoughts and experiences. It takes courage to write honestly and stand by the words regardless of the reaction that may be derived from them. Keep doing what you do. Always a pleasure to read and attempt to untangle your work.

Thanks Rob,

I guess we write mostly about what we see, some are fortunate to have pretty outlooks uninterrupted by ugliness..(not many like that I would imagine)

It seems to me that some resent others having seen a little more of life than them, they would rather have them silenced than listen to something they have little knowledge of. How sad is that?

Many thanks Rob.

As I read this my favourite tree outside my window is being cut down! Love how you've captured the gift of tree presence on human psyche

I wonder how many comments were made to Ms. Holiday about the quality of her meter and rhyme...

David - good, old reliable trees. Focus for sanity among the chaos of troubled minds and souls. Dependable as an old friend. We all need trees like this. Nice one mate.
