Women Empowerment

I am a woman liberated

From the bondage of slavery

The slavery of home and work

Having an identity of my own

I am a woman liberated

From the dogmas of society

I too have friends of opposite gender

Having a circle of mine to delight

I am a woman liberated

From the religious taboos

I don’t wear clothes to please people

I have a wardrobe that satisfies my eyes

I am a woman liberated

I too enjoy outings and picnics

With people I choose to be with

Living an enthusiastic life

I am a woman liberated

Liberated from home and religion

The bondage of child and family

The shackles all broken finally

The children who I ignored

Due to my official chores

Have an identity strange

Alas they too are liberated

The home that once was

Is more like a cozy hotel

We check in and checkout daily

Alas the family is also liberated

No time to remember God

Always busy deciding other chores

Priorities different, ways different

Alas the religion is liberated

I am a woman empowered

My power is clothes that I wear

My power is identity at workplace

My power is me, sans family

Tired working all day at office

No time for my sweet and lovely family

They can take care of themselves

Because I am a woman liberated

Liberated to wear what I want

Liberated to be where I want

Liberated to be with who I want

Liberated to do what I want

This liberation has its own cost

Now I am no more a mother

Now I am no more a wife

These are tags I wear without duties to abide

Empowerment has liberated me from family

Has enslaved me at my work place

Empowerment has liberated me from religion

Has enslaved me to discs and pubs

Alas I think and really think

Where is empowerment

What is bondage?

I am still a woman wanting liberation and empowerment.

Hi Raj,

Thank you for reading and appreciating the poem. Although this poem isn't an anthem but a common woman's observation voiced out. yes i do believe change is required cuz our whole society is suffering.
thank you!! more on the go soon.

if, Ghazala, I could have put it in better terms I would have done but I definitely could not.

A very powerful inspiring poem 💐

Love your anthem of liberation Ghazala.
It take oe woman to express her deepest beliefs for change to happen.
A simple but honest expose. Well done.
More please!
