Departure postponed

Are you up yet?

I’m on my second cup of coffee

The rolling news is reversing over me

Making sure I’m brain dead

Time zones steal you from me

You’re either sleeping or drinking

While I’m waking

and shaking and wasteful thinking

And now the neighbours have arisen

Tiny elephants ascending and descending

these walls as thin as dead zone atmosphere

its all or nothing with the company round here

You’ll traverse the river on your way to work

I think of the bow of your day cutting the waves

Then feel the tethers of my own dry dock existence pulling

The ropes are fraying and soon I’ll sail

Thank you Tom and Ray,

Tom, the "reversing over me" line really seems to sum up rolling news for me, it is rarely positive and therefore it seems to me that as opposed to rolling forward it reverses up over the listener/viewer ensuring the damage is properly inflicted...this to me portrays it in its more negative and truthful light.

By all means take anything I say and use it...everything is stolen even if not consciously.

I was relatively pleased with the last three lines as they can be taken in different ways, we can choose to cut the tether or simply wait until time takes its course, either way we still have choice. It is neither overtly pessimistic or optimistic when read with an open mind.

Thanks again.

All part of the diurnal journey. So much to like authentic to the letter. Top gear the last three lines. Beautiful.

Also... "The ropes are fraying and soon I’ll sail" is such a perfect phrase. I will try not to steal it...

A sobering thought indeed. I really like this David, time really is our enemy. I loved the line "The rolling news is reversing over me" - I feel that 😃.

Thanks Martin,

I have one or two true freinds out there in the world, many of them live in different time zones and some beyond communications.

I was thinking that time may not always allow me to say farewell to them due to such circumstances.

A sobering thought.

A well thought out piece of poetry David with the whole concept of setting sail for two parties seemingly in two different times zones. There are many fine lines here, but I think the one I like the most is

'I think of the bow of your day cutting the waves'

Nice one
