Oh, No!

The worst sound you will know is, "Oh no!"

Oh no! ...the basement's flooded,

Oh no! ...the car won't start,

Oh no! ...we missed the airplane,

Oh no! ...it fell apart!

With urgent fear--disaster's near,

With pounding heart and nerves a-start,

What worse news can they show than, "Oh no!"

The worse thing you can hear Is, "Oh dear!"

It echoes in the ear, that "Oh dear!"

Grandpa's wandered off again,

Lillie's lost her new best friend,

I think we're out of beer, and the dinner guests are here,

Oh dear, Oh dear!

You sometimes say you've got a bone to pick,

Or something in your craw has come to stick,

My jaw then drops, my spirits flop,

The clock tick-tocks 'til the other shoe's dropped...

Basement, Grandpa, Lillie's friend,

A bone to pick, a craw to mend,

The dinner guests--(the grill ain't lit!)

Is there a bottom to this pit?

Oh shit!

Thanks for weighing in, Jason.
I now think that that's a significant improvement.
There I was, shooting myself in the foot, pulling my punches, and...whatever.
You saved me some dithering...

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Brian on that one. The only reason I used the f word is because I thought it was the funniest answer to your question. However where I don't agree, is I've read poems with the c word in and in the right context I'm fine with that. It's only language after all, and let's face it, language is what it's all about.

Brian,

Thanks for that. I'm going to go with it. Thanks very much!

Mindy you are absolutely spot on with regards to shock value. Strong language can be effective if used sparingly and at the right time and in the right context. Use of fuck and shit as part of everyday use diminishes the value of these words...and as established WOL members will know, anyone who uses the c-word (or even thinks it!) should be flogged within an inch of their life and forced to drink a cup of cold poison. IMHO.

Jason,

Do you think I'm giving things away with the title?

Should it be, "Oh, No!"? -- Or something else

Once it's been said, the shock impact is lost...

Thsnk you, Jason.

Lead me not into temptation,
Are there bounds on poems' creation?

Well, that put a big smile on my face.
And to be honest, I've used far worse language Mindy, so I wouldn't worry.😁

The thought police will not release,
What deep, dark cries aren't pious,
They have, you see, such purity,
As would our sins deny us!

You've gone and nicked my favourite word
Why did you go do it?
I'm gonna have to substitute
With something else for shit

There is another word that's used
Some WOLers push their luck
Inviting visit Thought Police
Begins with 'f' ends 'uck'

Now Mindy I do like to
Swear a bit, an' slugger
But never would I use this word
Shit you've taken, bugga 😛
