In my African childhood

Today, I was inspired by Rick with his piece 'Old Time Religion'.

In my African childhood.

We lived next door to a ‘church’,

could hear their fervent chest-beating,

shouting at all times of the day and night.

So could our prize-winning show-dog.

A Beagle barking continuously

can be annoying... but not enough

to warrant throwing an axe

hitting and chopping off her leg.

Her Agricultural show career ended

although she enjoyed the breeding...

We moved away to safer neighbours,

our dog limping through her dreams.

Not very Christian.
Given the choice, I'd rather have the love of Dog.

Totally harsh Frances. I know I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a an axe wielding church goer. David's comments put me in mind of George Orwell's animal farm where the pigs declare that all animals are equal but some are more equal than others.
However lovely poem
nice one

We are all gods creatures Frances, (we are not) it's just that some of those creatures are less important than others in the eyes of some.

Mostly all those which aren't human, or those humans that don't share the beliefs of the ones holding the biggest sticks.

Hope you are well,
