Thanks Keith and Mark. Those of a certain age would know that Calam was short for Calamity Jane played in the film by Doris Day who died yesterday aged 93. I felt a small tribute was called for.

Yesterday, in some strange quirk of fate, I was in my bedroom when
I decided to play an old LP of the soundtrack of "Calamity Jane" -
and sat musing about how its glorious star had reached such a
great age. It was some hours later when turning on the TV that I
learnt of her passing. You may imagine my feelings about that coincidence. I first came to admire her as a singer and a star back
in the fifties via my late sister's LP of the soundtrack of the film
"Love Me or leave Me" in which she gave an acting display (as the
singer Ruth Etting) that co-star Jimmy Cagney was hard pressed
to match, And we all know what a force he was! Like another
show business legend, Frank Sinatra, she leaves a wealth of
good things to remember and to continue to enjoy. For that much,
we must surely be grateful. And among my CD collection, I am
privileged to possess the transfer of that old LP soundtrack of her
Ruth Etting bio to the newer home entertainment format. Que sera sera!
