Continental drift

Now closer than in recent years

separation is measured by sunlight and moon,

by sleeping and waking,

by cell phone roaming charges.

You live on the edge of Empires

divided by perfumed Seas, Minarets and Steeples.

I exist like a refugee in my crumbling Kingdom,

yet still it fortifies my heart.

Once when we were worlds apart

when love still served a purpose,

when I would call you fresh from the kill

our love defied the space between.

If we could hold each other for one moment

just to know that loved had passed,

we might slip gently into night

and loose these rusted chains at last.

Hello folks, many thanks for taking the time.

Back in 2005/6 I was in a sandy place having just left the Army. I was working privately as a consultant on a poppy eradication programme, it was early days and was very much an exploratory period..we worked with multiple government agencies of various countries. At that time I used to call someone who became very important to me, I would call her whenever we came back in from whatever we were doing. I began to associate those calls with off loading the horrors of the day, or the fear of those days, it became almost a dependency and consequently has lasted even to this day.

So much has changed, some things lost some things learned.

It's difficult to capture here but it's the best I can do.

Thanks again.

David.

Nothing like a fresh kill to attract the love hounds. WOL should have a golden button to vote for the best poems. I would smash it on this one. Great job. I enjoy hearing you recite it too. Thank you! ❤️👏

I love the gentle 'feel' of this one, for me it seems sad, regretful maybe bittersweet. Perhaps I'm wrong so I keep rereading it. I would really love to fully understand it.

"when i would call you fresh from the kill" ?

This says so much and tells all in its unique way mate. To say it moved me is an understatement. I don't find it obscure. It tells of distance, perception, expectation and a journey ended .
A great humility in it, as well as a small burning light .

Thank you for the flowers on this one John, Lisa and Dorothy.

It's a little obscure this one so I'am grateful for your response.

All the best,

David
