Going On A Demo

entry picture

I'd love to go on a demo, a mass protest or political rally

Perhaps a sit-in...anything where one can oppose

But my hair's too neat, I don't have a beard

and I don't wear sandals or hippy clothes

I don't know the words to 'Ooo Jeremy Corbyn'

I can't relate activist stories

and I know I wouldn't feel comfortable

saying fuck Trump and fuck the Tories

So I don't think I'll go on a demo.

It's not that I can't be arsed,

it's just that I don't think I'd fit in

I'm just too middle class

You're dilemma can be solved Brian
'Twill get you off your arse
To join with all the protest crowd
And rant and rave and curse

Let hair grow long and matty
A beard to match forsooth
Dunno why Shakespeare's snuck in
It seems a bit uncouth

Where was I now?..Got sidetracked
You gotta learn a mantram
Here's a good suggestion Brian
"Trumpy, up your tantrum"

Now polished shoes won't cut it
You need some hippy sands
Just hop into a Goodwill
And take some off their hands

While you're in there looking
A headband, Brian, go get
You now are fitted out as
Mass protester, to let

(Forgot the placard and activist story. Sorry 'bout that. I'm sure someone will lend you theirs and spin you a story. A flower in the hair will also help make you part of the in crowd. ) 😎

Your theme covers a good range of subject matter as I found myself. Your sentiments are probably shared by
the "silent majority" who tend to look askance at many
marches and their motives. I have participated in one
- years ago: from Marble Arch/Hyde Park to Trafalgar
Square, to support the campaign to save the Blue Whale
and have a synthetic substitute for its oil instead used for
commercial purposes. It was successful! As for your
words above...
You'd not be at ease with the "stand-outs"
Actively supported by hand-outs!
And hardly likely to have been pally
With the likes of old Tariq Ali...
Too much of an aware "smarty"
For the Socialist Workers Party!
