The Girl

I found her yesterday

She sat huddled in the

corner of the mirror

She looked like someone I knew

Her eyes so sad and hopeless

Empty and full of tears

Lips cracked from

biting in fear

Dull and tangled hair

without glow of happiness

She stared at me surprised

The look in her eyes slowly

turned into terrifying

understanding

I turned away from looking

Didn’t want to know the truth

about her

About the girl

Lost behind the glass

Who’s pleadings and cries

I can still hear at night...

Deep and moving, which I often find with your writing.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for reading and commenting on this poem. It is a very personal one.

I’ve been having rides on an emotional rollercoaster lately. Trying to keep things together but falling apart. The girl in the mirror is my vulnerability which I am strongly trying to avoid...

This poem is the result.

Hope it makes sense.

😘😘😘

It would be hard to think this autobiographical
but then only the looker knows the truth.
As we age we begin to recognise other faces looking back from the mirror.
We can see there hopes wishes and dreams too, often unfulfilled.
Just recognising them is enough!

Anya,
This poem intrigues me as I feel led to believe the face in the mirror is yours. It is strange the effect a mirror can have in representing ourselves and causing us to ponder who we are as opposed to what we look like. Thank you for this.
