SOAP : Corrie

entry picture

Where's the most dangerous place in the UK to live?

Is it an inner city ghetto

such as Mosside, Handsworth or Camberwell

where gun and knife crimes are rife

and violence is part of everyday life?

No, it's Coronation Street with an unbelievable level

of accidents, incidents and murders

all within spitting distance of the Rovers

The residents should be living in fear

but they seem quite happy, and why shouldn't they be?

There's full employment, no-one's out of work,

no-one seems to worry if they lose their job

They're in no hurry to get on the phone,

they know that another will soon arise

within fifty yards of their home

There's no CV, psychometric tests or interviews,

no other candidates, no chance they might lose

It's just gissa job and can I have next Friday off

because I need to be there for my mate

who's visiting the clinic as she's nine days late.

I love the soaps! My wife watches them and it means i am able to sit in another room, in peace and read or write or both without fear of being disturbed. Let's hope that those unbelievable storylines keep coming (mine or theirs)

I haven't watched a soap in decades, except for glimpses as I channel hop. I don't think I'm missing much.

Soaps used to thrive on lovable characters but now they have to be hateful and mean. Like a pantomime.

I used to do the soaps as a walk on artist, Brian, and it beats me how they keep turning out scripts by brain - they really need a computer to do it, as they take some believing in my book. The most interesting scenes were those that were never shot due to helicopters passing overhead.

A neat summation of why I never follow TV Soaps. Whenever I channel-hop, the characters in whatever example I meet in passing always seem to be arguing, shouting, or doing unpleasant things to each other!

Don't think I've seen anything of 'Corrie' for over 40 years! But I get what your saying - could be true of many shows.
