No street parties around here!

entry picture

With the eyes of the world on Windsor
And Gaza, Syria and North Korea have a day off
They’ve invited some commoners to the wedding
To share a crepe and aperitif with the toffs

Yes,  they are a modern day royal couple
Prince Harry marrying a mixed race divorcee
Buck Palace is going in the right direction
And you can watch it on Sky or the BBC

So, the Big Questions of the day
What will they wear, what will the starter be?
Who will walk Mehgan down the aisle?
I do hope you’re not losing sleep

But when most of the populace won’t care
And the Windsor beggars are forced off the streets
Because the cost of a royal wedding dessert
Could feed a family of four for a week

No doubt the world will wish them their best
And fawn over the joy they will give
But for the majority of folk that I know
It’s a reminder of how the other few per cent live

And it will be just a snip at £32 million
I hope that includes a new hat
Some folk near me wanted a street party
But the food bank wouldn’t stretch to that!

Many thanks, MC, Cynthia, Colin, Joyti (ps I did go to a grammar school back in the day 😃 ) and Brian, I didn't think this would be everyone's cup of tea, but good to get a few comments even if controversial!

As a Socialist I do accept the refreshing change to their image hence the lines in to reflect this, and yes MC (thanks for the KM analogy!) I know the royal family bring wealth and enjoyment to the country, maybe the price was worth it Cynthia if it has the desired effect.

I wrote this (as I often do) as an alternative view so the have-nots plight isn't forgotten - the gap is getting wider. I didn't however go to any anti-royal events as there are bigger things to worry about, I also welcome the change they want to bring about and good work they will do.

I wish them well, no doubt they will have their work cut out with the same people fawning all over it who will only be too willing to bring them down, bah humbug 😃

Shades of Kevin Maguire (ex-Guardian and now Daily
Mirror) who pops up on TV to preach the downside
of life under the royals. Many make pots if cash in this
world (check George Soros and emergent African despots)
without offering the repayment provided by the royals whose existence encourages so many to visit these shores
and put their own money towards the cost to the benefit
of others whilst taking harmless delight in the pageantry
and pleasure on offer.

A world stage for a world change - not too shabby, actually, even considering the cost. A lot less than a war. And no bodies.

maybe we should give 'em just a little credit for attempting to change their image? - for change has to start somewhere.

This bunch of words is a good case for Grammar schools, like being savaged by lambs.
