It is because of

the glaringly strong pigmentations used

compared with the wishy-washy ones

weakly suggesting a background presence

that the gaudily assorted colours of the flowers

filling a brightly patterned vase

have been made

to lift themselves from the foreground

of the painting

and occupy a space

in front of the canvas

that doesn't belong to them

how magically eye-tricking

they seem to be detached from

the still life picture

and pushed forward

by the artist's skill

and into becoming

dazzling fictitiously floating disowners

of a place where they should

in all truth be.

I think they call those books both you and Rose mention 'Magic eyes' or something like that.My lot have had endless hours of fun with them although only for a limited time in case they affect the eyesight. A very 'effective' poem Leon! Thank you.Jemima.

what brought this subject to mind was when I recently came across one of those books with abstract patterns on each page containing a hidden object within the pattern

but if you stared hard enough into the centre of the page the hidden object seemed to come off the page.

Very clever! Thank's Desmond Pat and Stef

'dazzling fictiously floating disowners
of a place where they should
in all truth be'

what a great ending to a great poem Leon.
